G. Caccini - Dalla Porta d’Oriente

"From the gateway to the East, she rose shimmering in the sky; softly colouring the clouds, the brightly shining Dawn;" are the first lines of Caccini's love song, which likens the beauty of a young maiden to the sunrise.

Marais - Sarabande Grave

This delicate Sarabande is from Marin Marais’s 3rd book of pieces for Viol, first published in 1711.

This recording was made at the Royal Academy of Music, with Florence Petit-Sibley playing the bass part.

Armenian trad. arr L. Musaelian - Keler Tsoler

Keler Tsoler is a traditional Armenian love song by Komitas (1869-1935) from the perspective of a young woman who spots a blond young man walking in the fields. She calls to him and fantasises about him as he glistens under the sun.
